Why fisheries?

Fish and fishy - these two terms are not necessarily related! And nothing really fishy about fisheries or this blog! The main reason I start this blog is to promote knowledge, possibly in layman terms about fish and fisheries. I like talking about fish and fisheries. Not just because it is my field of profession but because I think fish and fisheries are things that the world cannot live without.

Many people in many countries are dependent on fish as their main source of animal protein food. Most of these countries are in the eastern and southern shorelines of Asia that include Northeast Asia (China, Taiwan, Macao, Hong Kong and Japan), Southeast Asia (Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar) and South Asia (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Maldives). In other regions of the world, less fish is eaten. We Malaysians certainly eat a lot of fish as part of our daily diet

Sebab utama saya memulakan blog ini adalah untuk mempromosikan ilmu pengetahuan, kalau boleh secara mudah difahamkan oleh orang kebanyakan, tentang ikan dan perikanan. Saya suka bercakap tentang ikan dan perikanan. Bukan hanya kerana ia bidang kerjaya saya tapi kerana juga saya merasakan ikan dan perikanan ialah perkara-perkara yang dunia tidak boleh hidup tanpanya.

Banyak orang di kebanyakan negara bergantung kepada ikan sebagai sumber utama makanan berprotein binatang mereka. Kebanyakan negara ini terdapat di pesisir pantai utara dan selatan benua Asia seperti Asia Timur Laut (China, Taiwan, Macao, Hong Kong dan Jepun), Asia Tenggara
(Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapura, Thailand, Filipina, Brunei, Kemboja, Laos dan Myanmar) dan Asia Selatan (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh dan Maldives). Kita di Malaysia pastinya banyak memakan ikan sebagai sebahagian dari diet harian kita.
